Our Commitment is Our Community

The Junior League of Charleston provides volunteers and funding to area non-profit agencies for both the benefit of our community and the enrichment of our member volunteers.

Signature Project
Our current Signature Project is our Backpack Buddies Program. Our program serves 48 children from 3 local preschool classes at 2 different Kanawha County schools. 100% of the children we serve are living in poverty – meaning the family income is at or below the federal income guidelines for poverty. Several of these students are living in a chronic state of homelessness. The Junior League of Charleston provides a weekly “backpack buddy” bag of nonperishable food items for each of these students – totaling approximately 192 bags a month.

Rebecca Dickinson Goldsmith Scholarship

The Junior League of Charleston also administers the Rebecca Dickinson Goldsmith Scholarship. This scholarship of approximately $1000 is given annually to a high school student of Kanawha County Schools who demonstrates outstanding community Service. To apply, please contact The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
