Our Commitment is Our Community

The Junior League of Charleston provides volunteers and funding to area non-profit agencies for both the benefit of our community and the enrichment of our member volunteers.

Signature Project
Our current Signature Project is our Backpack Buddies Program. Our program provides bags of nonperishable food items to three Charleston, WV area schools. 100% of the children we serve are living in poverty – meaning the family income is at or below the federal income guidelines for poverty. Several of these students are living in a chronic state of homelessness. The Junior League of Charleston provides a monthly “backpack buddy” bag of nonperishable food items for these children – totaling approximately 165 bags a month. We also provide hygiene products for middle school students.

Rebecca Dickinson Goldsmith Scholarship

The Junior League of Charleston also administers the Rebecca Dickinson Goldsmith Scholarship. This scholarship of approximately $1000 is given annually to a high school student of Kanawha County Schools who demonstrates outstanding community Service. To apply, please contact The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
