About Us

Welcome to the Junior League of Charleston! We are an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The Junior League of Charleston is a network of more than one hundred volunteer women who work together to build a better Charleston community, develop leadership skills and build lasting friendships.

In 1923, women interested in building a better community established the Junior League of Charleston (JLC). Throughout the past nearly 100 years, the JLC has grown in its membership and involvement in the community. We are a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI), which includes nearly 300 Leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico and England.

As it was nearly 100 years ago, our community focus is children at risk. The Junior League of Charleston recognizes the need for every child to have an opportunity to live in a nurturing environment, conducive to develop to his or her full potential. A majority of our community projects involve reaching out to this group of youth.

These projects demand time, training and empathy from our volunteers. Through our Backpack Buddies program and other projects, we offer children in our community the tools for success.
